2010 Season Continued Under 11’s
10th May (Pont (H))
A fantastic 18 run victory from a young and talented side. The highlight of the match was G’ford only bowling 4 wides in there 16 overs...a fantastic achievement for the first game of the season. All bowlers bowled well, Will Roberts and Jac Lloyd each getting a couple of wickets. In reply Gresford batted with great skill against some very good bowling. Sam Thompson’s cover drive and Will Roberts’ pull shot amongst the shots of the day! Special mention must go to captain Ben Stubbs, who not only batted and bowled well put provided great support to the younger players in the team ensuring a comfortable victory.
17th May (Gwersyllt (H))
Despite being set a tricky total to chase, Gresford were comfortable winners. Gresford were set 55 to win and much of this was due to too many wide deliveries. Ben Stubbs and Matthew Thompson were the pick of the bowlers, picking 2 wickets apiece. Ultimately, a fantastic batting performance by all concerned secured a well deserved victory. Although Matthew Thompson and Will Roberts starred scoring 16 and 11 respectively, all played their part in an innings that only lost 2 wickets.
24th May Vs Chirk (A) An excellent all-round performance secured a good 42 runs win. Batting first, Will Roberts (17) was well supported by Jac Lloyd in a good opening partnership. Tom Roberts (17) and Ben Stubbs (15) also reached double figures. A much improved bowling display ensured the win, most pleasing aspect being the few wides bowled. Zak Dobie took 3-21 and Ryan Williams with figures of 2-0 were the highlights.
Marchweil Monday 7th June. A comfortable win at Marchweil after a match that survived the persistent drizzle. Here are the details salvaged from the rain sodden scoresheet! A formidable total of 117 was set batting first with several double figure scores. The highlight was 28 by Tom Roberts. Another fine bowling display ensured that Marchweil were unable to come close to chasing down the target. Matt Thompson (4-9), Ben Stubbs (3-9) and Jac Lloyd (2-0) the pick of the bowlers. Llay (A) 21st June A wonderful midsummer’s evening witnessed Gresford 11’s extend their unbeaten run at Llay. A comfortable victory of over 100 runs was secured by a fantastic batting performance. A significant highlight was Will Roberts’ (15) massive 6, incidentally well caught by his dad several yards beyond the boundary rope! Tom Roberts high scored with 31 well supported by all. In total 21 fours and 1 six were hit in the innings. A good bowling display secured the win. Tom Roberts (1-0), Zak Dolbie (2-0) and Ed Ellwood picking up 3 wickets were the highlights.
28th June v Ruthin A comfortable 63 runs win. Batting first Matthew Thompson scored a fantastic 21 well supported in a solid opening partnership with Ben Stubbs (11). A good bowling display secured victory, A Sam Thompson the pick taking 2-3.
5th July v Bersham . Batting first, Bersham set a challenging total. The pick of the bowlers were Matthew Thompson (2-4) and Ryan Williams (2-9). Following a fine batting performance, Gresford won by 53 runs. The key to success being the fact that only 1 wicket was lost. All batted well with Matthew Thompson (23), Ryan Williams (20) and Tom Roberts (13) all making double figures.
12th July v Brymbo. Brymbo set Gresford 66 to win. Tom Roberts was the pick of the bowlers taking 2-4. Yet again, Matthew Thompson batted well scoring 24 and was well supported by all. Yet again, losing few wickets was key to ensuring a 69 runs win.
19th July v Pont. Gresford were narrowly beaten for the first time this season by Pontblyddyn who were assisted in the field throughout by two Gresford players. Batting first a constant fall of wickets impacted upon the final total set. Jac Lloyd was the star with the bat scoring a fantastic 17. Pont finally won by 2 runs in an exciting finish.
26th July v Gwersyllt. Gresford returned to winning ways with a close 7 runs victory over Gwersyllt. Well done all!
9th August v Ruthin. Gresford bowled well with Tom Williams (3-3) and Zak Dobie (2-6) claiming the wickets. Set 58 to win, Gresford posted 82 to continue a successful season. Sam Thompson (20) and Sam Postel (25) top scored with the bat in a high scoring partnership.

Under 9’s
9th May Llay (A). Gresford batted first scoring 248, jack coops and the 2 new boys Cam and Daniel all batted well. Gresford then bowled Llay out for 222 all bowlers bowling well plus catching and fielding was good, Gresford winning by 26 runs well done all.
16th May Gwersyllt (A). Gresford batted first and scored a very good 306 runs off their 16 overs, only losing 3 wickets with good knocks from Daniel 16, Ryan 11 and Jack 8. When bowling there was 1 wicket a piece for Ryan, Daniel and Henry. Gwersyllt scored 253 only losing 3 wickets. The fielding was very good, a good day all around well done to you all, and a big thank you to parents.
Gresford u9s v Bersham. With Bersham batting 1st and each batting pair scoring over 30 runs and only loosing 5wkts and a final total of 115runs, Gresford wkt takers where Jack 2, Ryan, Mathew and Joe 1 each. Gresford’s reply started off well with first pair Ewan[6] and Daniel [16] scoring 48runs,then only Henry[13]and Jack[12]getting into double figures and with some good bowling, Gresford lost 8wkts, Bersham ran out winners by 33runs. Gresford u9s v Pont B. with Pont batting 1st and Gresford bowling better this week Pont could only manage 46runs in there overs, Jack and Cam taking 2wkts each and Alex getting 1.Gresford starting off well again 1st pair Ewan[4]and Daniel [36]scoring 54 then again only 2 players getting double figures Cam 14 and Ethan 10.Gresford only lost 4wkts and ran out winners by 70runs. Gresford u9s v Chirk. with Chirk starting off like a train first pair scoring 42, one lad scoring 28 all in boundaries [he didn’t like running] only one other in double figures, and 30 extras only losing 3 wkts, one each for Daniel, Mathew and new boy Sam Roberts. Chirk finished on 107. Gresford started well again 1st pair scoring 33, Daniel [22] Henry [7] three more batsmen into double figures Ryan 10, Ewan 11 and Jack 26 valuable runs at the end of the game, Gresford won by 6runs well done lads.
Gresford u9s v Pont A. Pont batted first and scored 45 runs Gresford bowling and fielding were very good taking 10 Pont wkts, Jack 2,Mathew 2,Henry 2 and one each for Daniel, Ewan, Ryan and Sam. Gresford started off slowly losing 3 quick wickets and with only 2 batsmen getting into double figures, Cam with 9 and captain Jack with 10 valuable runs but a mention must go to little Ewan Hoskins with a couple of lovely shots at the very end of the game which won the game for Gresford by 1 run, with losing 8wkts this weeks practice is batting [not losing our wkts]. Thanks to the mums for the drinks and biscuits. 4th July Gresford u9s v Gwersyllt, Gwersyllt batted first and scored 73runs, G,fords bowling Cam,2overs 2wkts 8runs.Mathew,2overs 2wkts 17runs.Jack,2overs 1wkt 5runs,but well bowled all the team much better ths week!! G.ford then batted and scored 118runs after loosing 5wkts Jack coops scored 17 runs[1 six],Sam Roberts 17runs[watch out Will]then Daniel 36runs[3 sixes] should of been 4 but for the umpire sleeping[not me]again much better this week, thanks to the mums for the refreshments see you all on Wed.
27th June Gresford u9s v Llay.Gford lost by 25runs Oliver,Henry nd Jack top scored with 10 runs each Gford scored 49 after loosing 8wkts!!![to many wkts] G,fords total runs came to 89.Llay batted and scored 86 runs for NO WKTS
